How to embellish the decoration of your chalet with exclusive mountain landscapes?

Written by Thomas Crauwels
Photo framing in a mountain chalet

The mountain chalet gives off a warm, almost bewitching atmosphere. The decoration of your chalet is essential to contribute to this atmosphere.

Between woodwork and stone walls, living in a mountain chalet, year-round or occasionally, gives you the unique sensation of being at one with nature, of reconnecting with it on a daily basis.

But what makes your cottage a true haven of peace is also and especially its decoration.

It is through the decoration of your cottage that you develop all its potential of conviviality and well-being for you and your guests.

Here are my tips for embellishing your decor with exclusive mountain landscapes.

Choosing the right image

You don't choose a photo by chance.

In fact, we don't really choose a photo, we fall in love with it. A landscape picture offers itself to us by making us feel strong emotions.

Very often, we go through a gallery and we remain speechless in front of a picture, sometimes without even really knowing why. When you are in front of this picture, time remains suspended, and you are transported in another dimension.

You're literally transported by beautiful mountain photos, like this one of the Matterhorn and the Dent d'Hérens from a little-known, wild angle.

The exclusive mountain photos that will be able to really embellish your chalet must give you this kind of feeling.

This proves that they speak to you, that they correspond to you and that they will be a true personalization of your home.

Choosing the right print media

To enjoy your exclusive mountain landscape, it is essential to think carefully about the medium on which it will be printed.

This support can give it a very different look depending on whether the final result is matte or glossy.

On the other hand, some print media provide a more elegant or rustic touch.

Finally, depending on the print media you choose, you will enjoy a better longevity for your frame photo.

Choosing the right frame

To perfectly highlight your mountain photo, the frame must be adapted not only to the photo, but also to the type of chalet you are decorating and the support on which it will be installed.

When it comes to the type of decoration of your cottage, there can be two schools:

  • You can put a wooden frame in a traditional cottage, but beware, on a wooden wall, a wooden frame will have little effect. On a painted wall, however, it can be quite interesting.
  • What if you opted for a print without frame ? This will give a modern touch while going well with the rest of the decoration.

In a cottage contemporary, a picture without frame or with an aluminum frame.

Note that the larger the print , the more important it will be to choose a thick frame . To highlight the photo.

The frame, and especially its color, should be selected according to the wall on which it will be hung.

A gray frame on a gray wall, for example, has little chance of effectively highlighting the work it contains.

Choose the right place

To be used to its advantage, a frame must be installed in a suitable place. The picture must be adapted to the atmosphere you want to develop in the room.

An exclusive mountain landscape will often be appropriate in a room where you want to create a relaxing, yet friendly atmosphere.

It is also necessary to think about the distance you can take to enjoy the picture and to adapt the size of the print. Indeed, there is little interest in hanging a print of 100x150cm in a narrow corridor that will not allow you to stand in front of it to enjoy the image.

Finally, the color or coating of the wall should be taken into consideration.

To highlight this photo on a natural stone wall, a contrasting frame contemporary was selected.

A black and white mountain photo will look great on a wooden wall, for example.

On a gray stone wall, a black and white photo should have strong contrasts to catch the eye.

Choosing the right lighting

Last point to take into account to bring a real plus to your devouring with an exclusive mountain landscape: the lighting of your frame photo .

A frame installed in an unlit entrance or hallway will not be put to good use and will unfortunately not bring much to your decoration.

Natural light in the chalet of frame mountain photo
A natural light, close to a window for example, allows you to enjoy your mountain photography perfectly, and varies according to the hours of the day, the season or the weather, making it even more interesting and different to admire each day.

To take full advantage of the work you have acquired, favor a wall that benefits from natural light, but avoid direct sunlight to ensure the longevity of your work.

If you want to install it in a dark room or one that is used mainly at the end of the day, you can highlight it with a spotlight directed at it.

In this case, you should preferably choose a print with a matte finish, otherwise the reflections will harm the photo.

To conclude

As you can see, hanging a picture of a mountain in your living room is not enough to really embellish the decoration of your chalet.

Thinking carefully about your landscape and how you will showcase it is essential to get the most out of it and make it a highlighted centerpiece of your home.
