The 4000 of Zermatt
The Ballet des summits
About the work
Viewed from the west, the Matterhorn reveals its least known yet most aesthetically pleasing profile. There is no easy way to reach this viewpoint, no ski lift, no nearby village. Raw and solitary, the mountain distances itself from our world. Each peak in this panorama is a gem that is earned. To reach such altitudes, a first day of approach is necessary. It is only on the second day that the encounter can take place. Tête Blanche, Dent d'Hérens, Castor, Pointe Dufour, Nordend, and of course the Matterhorn, unfold their infinite presence at the heart of the wild Alps. This is what I love so much in this work. The beauty of a celestial, pure, and intense universe, where nature reigns supreme.
In creating this work, I wanted to highlight the alignment of summits. I waited for the conditions I hold so dear to my heart to come together: the gentle interplay of light and shadow, the snow freshly deposited by the storm on the rock faces and the elegant dance of the last clouds between the summits. In this almost unreal picture, the softness of the contrasts sublimates the disproportionate power of the highest Alpine summits .
