A fabulous vertical portrait of the Aletschhorn, which rises to an altitude of 4194 metres in the bernese alps. At its foot flows the Aletsch glacier, the largest in the Alps. With no easy access, the top of the mountain has to be earned. I took this black-and-white photograph to highlight the Aletschhorn's magnificent, tormented ridge line. It guides our gaze from the Greieckhorn, which rises to an altitude of 3811 metres, to the Aletschjoch and finally to its summit. As we make our way across, we discover the asperity of its rocks, its storm-ravaged ridges and its cornices newly shaped by the winds.

I've waited many years for this day to come. For the snow to plaster the mountain. For the winter sun to illuminate only its eastern face, leaving its northern slope to rest. Between light and shadow, the Aletschhorn reveals its beauty and immensity. Its vertiginous walls redrawn in this way. Photography blends the worlds I like to work in. The search artistic quest I have for duality and the interplay of light. And my aesthetic quest to highlight the graphic power of mountains. Alternating black and white, solids and textures, lines and curves. The balance is perfect. Contemplating this work lifts us into another world.
