Allalinhorn
Sentinel of the Mischabels massif
About the work
The mountain is revealed in striking contrast. The dark rock struggles against the blindingly white glaciers still clinging to its flanks. In the foreground, the glacier displays its gaping wounds, scars of silent agony. Widening crevasses bear witness to the warming that is eating away at these thousand-year-old cathedrals of ice. Every season, I return to contemplate its changing face. With each visit, I measure the inexorable progress of its metamorphosis. The recent storm offered an illusory respite, an immaculate veil temporarily masking the scars of time. But beneath this ephemeral finery, the truth remains implacable. The deep fissures that scar the glacier tell the story of the slow disappearance of a world. Yet theAllalinhorn retains its regal dignity. It stands impassive in its primitive grandeur, as if the mountain itself refuses to admit its own vulnerability in the face of the upheavals we are imposing on its existence.
This work invites you to meditate on the fragile beauty of our Alpine summits . TheAllalinhorn is no longer just a mountain to be admired, but a message engraved in rock and ice. A chilling reminder that even giants are not eternal in the face of the fever that consumes our planet.
