Cengalo - Badile
About the work
I took this exceptional photograph of the Cengalo and Badile in May 2020, listening to the mountain and waiting for the moment when the sun would illuminate the north face of Piz Badile after the storm. That long-awaited day has finally arrived. The mountains, dusted in white, sparkled as the sun rose. It's this fleeting splendor that I wanted to capture, to leave you with a legacy of the Alps.
This black-and-white work holds a special place in my heart. It took me years of waiting to be able to take this shot. I wanted to capture Piz Badile coated in white and glistening in the sunlight. When I look into this photograph, I feel the power and purity of this north face. I'm drawn to these vertical, vertiginous summits that seem impossible to climb. When I'm a mountaineer, I can't help thinking of my photographs, which emphasize the inaccessibility of the mountain. The moods and lighting in my work make the summits seem insurmountable. And yet they are. Climbers achieve the unattainable.
This painting sings of Alpine beauty. Observe the contrasts between the silvery hues and the still dark clouds of the storm. They bring a unique depth to the work. See how mountains live. The sequence of summits makes the photograph three-dimensional. Details and textures sublimate the summits, captivating our gaze with their beauty. The purity of the high mountains invites us to contemplate and marvel.
