Matterhorn - Dent d'Hérens
Celestial Lights on the Peaks
About the work
I took this magnificent photograph in the summer of 2020, after the passage of a storm. The raging winds had raged for several days in the high mountains, transforming the relief into an immaculate landscape. For a few moments, nature offers us the privilege of contemplating the Matterhorn and the Dent d'Hérens in their most beautiful light. Snow-white rock lords watch over their Himalayan kingdom. A masterful, ephemeral scene, soon to be exiled to the rank of memory. I like to immortalize these moments of grace where beauty rubs shoulders with the absolute. And, through my photographs, to allow you to gaze into them at every opportunity. To venture into the heart of the Alps, into the most dazzling of nature's creations.
In this picture, the western side of the mountains remains in shadow, while the northern side sparkles in the sun. An increasingly rare phenomenon that can only happen at this time of year. I waited several years before being able to capture summits in this way. It's a unique moment that I'll probably never have the chance to experience again, as rainfall is now so rare in summer.
I love this incredible panorama, full of sumptuous details. The sharp faces of the Matterhorn and the Dent d'Hérensand the Matterhorn, the grandeur of their hanging glaciers. Admire the high glacier ofArolla in the foreground. This is one of the most beautiful views in the Alps. I love the depth of this photograph, with shots that follow one another all the way to the horizon. The Monte Rosa massif appears to the left of the Matterhorn, made up of Dufourspitze and Nordend. I love the light that pierces the clouds to bring the relief to life. I recharge my batteries in this wild and inaccessible place. This fascinating, ever-changing landscape. In the hope of being able to admire its eternal ice for a few more years to come.
