A splendid portrait of the Matterhorn, freshly dressed in white. The Matterhorn, a famous mountain in the Valais Alps, rises 4478 metres above the Zermatt valley in Switzerland. Opposite us, the Hörnli ridge is the normal route to its summit. The Furggenn ridge, on the left, and the Zmutt ridge, on the right, cut the impressive silhouette of this ruler of the Alps against the sky. Behind the rump of the rocky sphinx, Dent d'Hérens emerges in the shape of a shark's fin. In the photograph, the Matterhorn's glaciers are open. Just a few years ago, this detail indicated that we were in summer. But with snow becoming increasingly scarce, the ice now cracks as soon as spring arrives.

I took this photograph after the passage of a violent summer storm. I've waited so long for this moment! When the snow falls this hard in summer and the light sublimates its beauty, the mountain is adorned with interesting textures and sensational graphic effects. To immortalize the Matterhorn in this way, I climbed up to this viewpoint the day before. I managed to deploy my tent before the storm hit the heights. And the next morning, when I opened my eyes, I was able to witness this grandiose scene. A diamond of the Alps lay before me, magnificently snow-covered and bathed in this unique light. Luckily, the sun, hidden by clouds, was shining indirectly on the Matterhorn. Thanks to its soft contrasts, my work reveals the fabulous purity and grandeur of this legendary summit . The light, diffused light brings the majesty of the Matterhorn to the fore, inviting us to discover every detail, every pebble and every slice of snow.
