The Matterhorn rises to 4,478 metres above sea level on the Swiss-Italian border. The undisputed emblem of the Alps, also known as Matterhorn in German and Cervino in Italian, its majestic face is visible from Zermatt. I shot this masterly portrait of the mountain in autumn light, when the sun seemed to have chosen it above all others.

This magnificent black-and-white photograph features the Matterhorn's perfect pyramid. Dressed in celestial finery, the mountain rises from a sea of mist after conquering the night. Its iconic summit rises skyward, offering its perfect silhouette to the rising sun. In a bid to touch the firmament, it brandishes its tip, victorious and flamboyant. To witness this exceptional spectacle, I had to provoke fate. And I waited for a spark from the highest summits the Alps to photograph this legendary summit .

The autumn mist adds a delicate softness, enveloping the summits in a light veil that reinforces the sacred and eternal aspect of the landscape. Isolating the Matterhorn from the surrounding landscape, it reveals only the essential. The splendour of its soul and the brilliance of its contours. Taking our fascinated gaze to the summit a poetic, grandiose mineral world. In the background, the Alps stretch as far as the eye can see, revealing an impressive succession of prestigious summits . These include Dent d'Hérens, Tête de Valpelline and Tête Blanche, as well as more distant summits such as Grand Paradis, Mont Blanc and Grand Combin.

For a fleeting moment, the mountain sparkles like a rough diamond under the rays of the rising sun. But as the intense light draws its perfect contours, the dream remains engraved at the heart of my work. In this solemn dawn where sky and rock commune, the Matterhorn reminds us why men have always looked to the summits - to seek inspiration, transcendence, and perhaps even, in the silence of the heights, a glimpse of the infinite.
