Matterhorn
Crown of Clouds
About the work
It's August 2017. The Matterhorn is freshly covered in snow. As I set up in my tent on the Rothorn, ready to immortalize this mountain, I hoped that dawn would tear a veil from the clouds to reveal the Matterhorn at its finest. But as dawn broke, not a cloud could be seen. The sky was a perfect blue, too perfect to capture the photograph I wanted. But I persevered. I choose to wait for a miracle to appear before me. As the morning progressed, small clouds gradually enveloped summit. The landscape changes. Suddenly, the Matterhorn comes into view, even more impressive than I had hoped. A gigantic lenticular crowns the mountain, while a sea of clouds rises at its feet. You could almost see the mist dancing, shimmering, playing around the Matterhorn! summit seems to belong to another world, to a celestial universe inaccessible to man. Just before summit is completely swallowed up by the clouds, I capture this incredible scene.
For a long time, I've dreamed of this timeless, dazzling work of art on the Matterhorn. It seemed an obvious choice, a photograph that I wanted to be unique, a reflection of the majesty of the Alps. Through this mountain, I rediscover my aspirations: to tell the story of the mountains, to preserve their heritage, to pay tribute to them. In this landscape, I perceive the very essence of life, a deep desire for the absolute. The soul of nature, powerful and inaccessible, is revealed.
