Beyond the peaks
Panoramic view of the Valais Alps
About the work
On the right of the picture, the Monte Rosa massif emerges from the mist, endowing the work with a powerful mystical intensity. The highest summits in the Swiss mountain range stand proudly between earth and sky. Breithorn Liskamm, Castor, Pollux, Dufourspitze or Nordend, legendary mountains that stir the imagination. In the foreground, the central figure of the painting, the incredibly imposing Grand Combin, rises 4314 metres above the Val de Bagnes. An imposing pyramid of rock and ice in the heart of the Swiss Alps. On sunny days, it's a pleasure for me, as a mountaineer, to reach summit via the Combin de Valsorey and its magnificent traverse. This welcoming summit still boasts numerous high-altitude glaciers. No doubt they will be among the last glaciers in the Alps within the next thirty years or so. The high mountains are suffering terribly from global warming, and their appearance is changing rapidly. Faced with the irreversibility of this tragedy, I display my photographs as testimony to the evanescent beauty of a nature that tomorrow will no longer be the same. On the left of the work, admire the snow glistening on the Matterhorn and on the Dent d'Hérensthe famous mountains of the Imperial Crown Zinal. With their western faces superimposed, the two summits appear to be one and the same. Finally, to their left, the Strahlhorn and Rimpfishhorn, over 4,000 metres high, stand on the border between the valleys of Saas Fee and Zermatt.
Through this grandiose work, I wanted to convey the immensity of the Valais Alps. This infinite beauty of nature, wild and reckless, which transports me and inspires my art.
