Imperial Crown
The great crossing
About the work
The starting point of the journey, Bishorn , shines in the foreground of the photograph. It guides our gaze towards the Grand Gendarme, a bastion of rock protecting the Weisshorn on its northern ridge. But here, this fierce spear points so high that it appears to have been transformed into summit . A flamboyant colossus, the Weisshorn sparkles like a celestial jewel. Our souls overwhelmed by such beauty, we continue our odyssey towards the Matterhorn. Adorned in a veil of light and shadow, the lord of the Valais Alps stands at the center of the picture. From the Zinalrothorn, we arrive at summit de l'Obergabelhorn, just lit up by the rising sun.
As winter draws to a close, the storm has raged across the Swiss Alps. As it recedes in the early morning, a soft, deep light warms the mountains. The imperial crown of Zinal awakens under a new light, redesigned by the winds and their sumptuous snow. I love the contrasts of the first light, the revealed textures of ice and rock.
My gaze plunged into the gigantic seracs that cover the Weisshorn, I discover new fault lines. Fickle lines, fluctuating contours. Because in the mountains, every day is unique. So I continue to photograph it. The Imperial Crown of Zinal, a celestial muse of unrivalled presence. I am the guardian of its thousand-year-old memory.
