The Dent d'Hérens
The Awakening
About the work
To be there at the right moment to immortalize the splendor of a high mountain freshly redesigned by the storm is therefore quite a challenge. And I accept it without hesitation. I'm thrilled by the hope of being able to admire this celestial kingdom once again. And I'm driven by a compelling need to convey its beauty to you. To bear witness through my art to the power of the mountain and its fragility. To perpetuate the heritage of a nature in full metamorphosis. Every year, I'm afraid I'll never see again the hanging glaciers that make me so dreamy. So, as long as they exist, I photograph them, tirelessly.
That day, the Dent d'Hérens was bursting into sunlight after several days of violent storms. Winds had swept up the sides of its northeast face, and fresh snow had plastered its walls all night long. Tearing through the fog, she can finally rub shoulders with the sky. I love the dimension that the Ferpècle glacier brings to the photograph. Sparkling in the foreground, it invites our gaze to travel to summit, through seracs, snow and rocks. In perpetual motion, Dent d'Hérens reveals the depths of its soul, between light and shadow.
