The Dent du Géant (4013m) is one of the summits mythical peaks of the Mont Blanc massif. It rises in a single block, suspended between France and Italy, and looks down on the glacier of the same name that flows along its foothills. Climbers watch patiently from the Torino hut, warm and safe, waiting for the right moment to set off in pursuit of its summit, like conquerors of the useless.

The north face of this magnificent granite tower is massive. I've immortalized it here by putting Rochefort's sharp ridge into perspective. I was lucky enough to cross it to reach its needle. For some time now, due to the weather conditions, the crossing has become more and more formidable: the ridge is becoming thinner and thinner, tolerating less and less the passage of the balancing artists of the skies venturing on its white thread.

In this photograph taken in May 2019, following a storm, the winds swept away the snow deposited on the hanging glaciers. Under better conditions, my guide friend Vivian Bruchez wouldn't hesitate to ski these hypnotic slopes... I wouldn't either!

The Dent du Géant is revealed here in all its verticality. The north face plunges into the abyss, while a dazzling light shines diagonally across this composition of rock and ice. The balance of lights and tones gives the work a Soft contrast.

The attentive viewer may notice a tiny silhouette at summit . No, it's the statue of the Virgin Mary, watching over the future climbers of the world above.
