The Dents du Midi
Celestial Sculpture
About the work
I took this aerial photograph by helicopter. I studied the maps at length to find the exact location that would allow me to bring together two of the Alps' most famous giants in a single shot: Dents du Midi and the Mont Blanc massif. The year is 2020, after one of the rare storms that plastered summits that year. I had to wait many years for the chance to witness such a beautiful spectacle. The very essence of nature, free and all-powerful, distilling its splendor when it wishes, bringing my art to life. All that's left for me to do is imagine the mountains, draw up plans, think about photographs. I keep this treasure deep inside me until the day the mountain offers itself to my gaze in all its glory. Then I'm there, listening to it, excited and happy to finally immortalize it as I'd dreamed it.
I love the sculptural power of this work. The chiselled summits reveal themselves between light and shadow. Ridges follow one another and planes are superimposed. Waves of rock break against the sky. Contrasts of Soft and silver add incredible depth to the picture. The diamond of the Alps, sailing beyond our world and yet so present in our hearts.
