Dents du Midi
Celestial Wall
About the work
To take this exceptional photograph, I slept in the mountains as a spring storm battered the Swiss Alps. After many disappointments, I hoped deep down to be able to immortalize the freshly snow-covered Dents du Midi . Several times during the night, I woke up, waiting for that long-awaited moment when the mist would finally give way to the mountains, but nature didn't seem to want to lift the veil on her most beautiful works. Beset by doubts, my dream drifted away. At daybreak, the clouds began to lose altitude. Perhaps too quickly. Could this stream of fog be waiting for dawn to break before disappearing?
My heart pounding, I counted the minutes until suddenly, nature offered me this fabulous spectacle. The Dents du Midi are completely frosted, glistening in the first light. Capped with clouds and sailing on a bewitching sea of clouds. Ready to seize my chance, I photographed the mountain with a 30-second exposure. This was to capture light that was still invisible to the naked eye, and to allow the movement of the clouds to bring the work to life. See how Dents du Midi rises between two opposing winds. Nature's upheaval and the interplay of the elements. What a pleasure to have been able to paint this portrait of Dents du Midi, fascinating and implacable!
