The Eiger
Legend of the Five Faces
About the work
I took this square-format aerial photograph by helicopter. I'd been looking for the Eiger for several years before I had the chance to witness this grandiose, unreal spectacle. On this day, the elements came together to give me this spellbinding portrait of the fabulous Eiger. Winter was in full swing, with one storm after another at the gateway to the Swiss Alps. Disturbances from the north wash over the Grindelwald wall before reaching the rest of summits. At that very moment, the mountain survived the fury of the storm. Its north face will slumber in the shadows until spring returns. Still buffeted by the wind, the Eiger pierces the clouds like a rock spike to reach the sun. In the background, the Schreickhorn and Lauteraarhorn also emerge from a sea of clouds, lending a mystical depth to the picture. A hymn to the Eiger, this photograph is the fruit of a haunting dream: to immortalize through my art the wild beauty of summit, its exceptional silhouette and its legendary charisma.
