Eiger, Mönch
Ode to the Mittellegi
About the work
I love it when, in my work, the elements enter into symbiosis to sublimate the grandeur of the high mountains and fill you with emotion. I took this photograph of the Eiger on a spring morning, just as the storm was clearing summits. I was lucky enough to be facing the mountain just as the mist was breaking. Still covering the valleys, the clouds bring a celestial dimension to summits. I waited for the perfect moment when, pushed by the winds, they let us catch a glimpse of the Mönch in the background, a legendary colossus over 4,000 metres high with gleaming walls.
I savor the contrasts in the mountains. The strength of black contrasts with the luminosity of white. Alternating tones embody the personality of summits, exhilarating and disproportionate. The play of light reveals the legendary verticality of the Eiger's north face, here plunged into shadow, contrasting with the dazzling silhouette of the eastern slopes of the Mönch and Eiger. Yin and Yang of a nature that never ceases to make us dream.
