Eiger - Mönch - Jungfrau
Celestial Trilogy
About the work
In the foreground of this black-and-white portrait, the Eiger guides our gaze above the clouds. While its north face still battles the mist, its Mittellegi ridge winds along a thread of light and shadow. Our journey then takes us to summit du Mönch, which rises to 4110 metres in the center of the picture. The mountain's snow-white northeast face is exposed to the first rays of a radiant sun. While its north face remains in shadow throughout the winter. On the right-hand side of the painting, our odyssey ends at summit de la Jungfrau. Beside it, the Rottalhorn and its pass, the Rottalsattel, stand guard over the access to the Queen Mountain.
Beyond the horizon, the grandiose peaks of the Valais Alps gaze down on this breathtaking spectacle. The legendary titans of bernese alps emerging from the void after the storm. I love the mountains when they're like this, powerful and luminous, carried by vapid Soft contrasts. I love it when winter repaints summits and color gives way to black and white. Giving life time to catch its breath before spring returns.
