Alpine geometry to the glory of the Finsteraarhorn. This magnificent pyramid of rock and ice sits enthroned in the Valais Alps, on the right bank of the Rhône Valley. In this black-and-white photograph, the mountain emerges from the mist. It points skywards as the winter winds rage and the storm gradually engulfs summits. Only a few ridges emerge from the clouds like breakwaters countering the frenzy of the waves. The ridge in the foreground guides our gaze from the Ankenballi to summit on the Lauteraarhorn, crossing the peaks of the Kleines Lauteraarhorn.

I took this captivating portrait of the Finsteraarhorn in winter. As the sun's rays hit the mountains from this very particular angle. To highlight their purposeful lines and sharp peaks. The depth of their features and the verticality of their faces. The texture of their rock and the beauty of their snowy mantle. The shots overlap, leading us at a hypnotic pace to the impregnable citadel of the Finsteraarhorn. Observing the scene, Mount Rose's summit appears on the horizon.
