Fletschhorn
Brightness of the sunrise
About the work
This exceptional panorama also highlights the other mountains in the region. Barely visible behind the Fletschhorn, the Lagginhorn peak rises to an altitude of 4010 metres. Our photographic journey then takes us to the Pizzo d'Andolla, a sharp pyramid that stands on the Italian border. From the Tällihorn, our gaze finally wanders to the Tossenhorn, on the far left of the picture. It rises to an altitude of 3224 meters between the Laggintal and the Swischbergental.
I took this photograph of the Fletschhorn from the other side of the Rhone valley. The view of the mountain is breathtaking from the ski resorts of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp. These villages in the Aletsch Arena ski area lie at the foot of the Aletschgletscher, Europe's largest glacier. A sumptuous landscape that honours these ice marvels, thought to be immortal but dying a little more every day. Having emerged victorious from a snowstorm, the Fletschhorn sparkles at dawn. The clouds still present, the last witnesses to the fury of the winds, endow the picture with a bewitching depth. The freshly snow-covered mountain appears in all its purity. Its immaculate finery lends it a Himalayan air that we'd like to contemplate for eternity.
