About the work
I worked for many years before I was able to immortalize the power of the Matterhorn. I was present at every storm, hoping that the elements would come together to create the masterpiece of my dreams. I had many failures before I had the chance to witness this moment. To make this piece, I bivouacked all night in the mountains, facing the storm and the snowy winds. And when the sun came up, the Matterhorn stood before me more majestic than ever. The freshly snow-covered summit pierced the sky, proclaiming its victory over the fury of the night winds.
I shaped this moment that doesn't really exist. The dramatic intensity of the work is highlighted by the use of black filters, which allowed me to photograph in daylight as if it were night. By extending the exposure time of my camera, I was able to crystallize the movement of the clouds that clung tenaciously to the eastern face of the Matterhorn. The beauty of the picture could not be seen if I froze the moment. The flight of the clouds gives life to the work and fills us with emotion.
