A jewel of ice that Zermatt guards preciously. I took this color photograph in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Once, the Gornergletscher, majestic and imperious, dominated the valley. Today, the glacier reveals a transformed image of itself. A mountain weakened by time. Under the onslaught of climate change, this giant of the peaks is retreating, leaving behind deep scars. Nature's creations bear witness to the flaws in our own planet.
