The titanic defender of the Valais Alps, Grand Combin rises above Verbier. I took this black-and-white panoramic photograph to showcase this colossal massif. With its gleaming armour, the mountain deploys its sentinels. The Combin de Grafeneire, de Valsorey and de la Tsessette take over the horizon and reach for the sky. The splendor of these summits inspires me and I was lucky enough to climb them in 2022 alongside my guide, Johann Filliez. A child of Verbier, he loves Grand Combin more than any other peak. Faced with this work of art, I can understand why. How could I not succumb to the magnificence of the undisputed lord of the Bagnes and Entremont Valleys?

December 2023. It's winter. A storm is raging in the Valais Alps. At summit Grand Combin , the elements clash, tenacious and merciless. The tumultuous winds sweep away the snow that covers summits. In the shadows, we can make out the north face of the Combin de Valsorey, with its sharp ice, as if on edge. The mountain, inaccessible for the moment, becomes wild again.

I love the softness of winter dawn. The indirect light that, despite the fighting, caresses the mountains and reveals their soul. This vaporous veil that sublimates the shadows and distills life. On the steep slopes and bleached ridges, details emerge that tell me the story of Grand Combin and his brothers. To capture the face of an omnipotent mountain, I have to be there when nature awakens. Under a sun frozen by a furious blast, I immortalize the high summits of the Alps, their deep emotions and their omnipotence.
