Grand Combin
La Traversée
About the work
In the center, the Combin de Grafeneire (4314m), accompanied by the aiguille du Croissant, is the highest. To the left, the Côte wall gives access to the Combin de la Tsessette (4134m), itself linked by a narrow, vertiginous ridge to the Tour de Boussine (3831m), summit rarely used by mountaineers outside the Combins traverse. To the right, the Combin de Valsorey (4186m) closes the triptych.
It took me more than 10 years to obtain this rare photograph of this celestial kingdom. The storm subsides, a sea of clouds, blocked by the presence of Tournelon Blanc (3700m), still covers the valleys, while the violent winds continue to blow the snow at summit du Combin de Grafeneire... the mountain is thus revealed in all its immensity, ice and snow radiate; difficult to imagine now that, in perhaps 40 years' time, only summit will still be there.
