Grand Combin
Lord of Verbier
About the work
I took this photo of Grand Combin at sunrise, as summer was drawing to a close. After several months of drought, the mountain was bare, stripped of all snow. Previously, the eternal snows had been used to quench the thirst of mountaineers traversing the high summits . We would melt the ice to drink and cook a snack. But the year 2020 changed the mountain forever. Giving the heights only one summer storm. The one I'm immortalizing here.
I love the wind's assault on summits. Revealing the beauty of their textures. Redrawing the rock like charcoal on paper. With no residual snow on which to rest, the storm enriches the mountain with new contrasts. See how the snow and rocks shimmer against this silvery panorama. Contemplate the sumptuous details that nature reveals when the conditions are right. Allowing me to capture for you this unique picture that will make you dream.
