Marvelling at the beauty of the skies, we sail serenely above the clouds, meeting Grand Combin, lord of Verbier. In this beautiful black-and-white panoramic photograph, the mountain embodies the immensity of the Alps. Far from the hustle and bustle of human life, it unfurls its freshly snow-covered summits . Sparkling in the sun, the Combin de la Tsessette catches our eye. Do you think it's impossible to ski its vertical face? In 2021, Vivian Bruchez and Paul Bonhomme succeeded in this technical feat, opening a new access route to summit, which they named Les Piliers de Bagnes. The ridge then leads us to the Aiguille du Croissant. A quarter-moon guides us between light and shadow to the Combin de Grafeneire, at 4314 metres. We then descend to the Combin de Valsorey. To the right, our journey ends at the Combin de Corbassière, whose summit gleams in the sunlight. When the dome of the Petit Combin remains in the shade for a few more minutes.

I took this photo of Grand Combin at sunrise, as summer was drawing to a close. After several months of drought, the mountain was bare, stripped of all snow. Previously, the eternal snows had been used to quench the thirst of mountaineers traversing the high summits . We would melt the ice to drink and cook a snack. But the year 2020 changed the mountain forever. Giving the heights only one summer storm. The one I'm immortalizing here.
