Immersed in the fury of winter, I capture Grand Combin in the heart of the Val de Bagnes. Culminating at an altitude of 4,313 metres, summit defies the elements with unrivalled majesty. In this black and white photograph, the Combin de Valsorey, Combin de Grafeneire and Combin de la Tsessette stand like bastions defending the highest summit . In winter 2020, an exceptional storm envelops them, giving them the appearance of citadels besieged by violent winds and gusts of snow. The spectacle is both terrifying and captivating, creating a tableau in which every element contributes to the grandeur of the scene. The wind sculpts the snow and shapes the clouds into royal crowns around summits. In the foreground, Lia's Tournelon Blanc and Becca stand in splendid array. They contrast with the fury of the elements raging behind them. These mountains, though lower in elevation, impose their presence.

The first rays of sunlight break through to illuminate the eastern slopes of summits, creating a striking visual duality: the softness of the rays against the brutality of winter. This photograph reveals a triple depth articulated around the clouds and the play of light and shadow. This is precisely what I seek to capture in my work.

This portrait of Grand Combin is the fruit of years of waiting. Every detail, from the accumulations of snow to the clouds dramatically clinging to the peaks, bears witness to an alpine environment that is both unforgiving and magnificent. The mountains, in their celestial isolation, show resilience in the face of the human world. Before them, I capture their pure beauty, their indomitable character, their strengths and weaknesses. Heavenly power that I feel in the depths of my soul.
