The mystical apparition of Grand Muveran rises to 3051 meters on the border between the cantons of Vaud and Valais in the Swiss Alps. The people of Vaud like to call it one of the vaud alps , but geologically it belongs to the bernese alps. I took this photograph of the north face of Grand Muveran from Villars-sur-Ollon. Along with Dents du Midi, it has become the emblem of this famous ski resort.

When I admire this fabulous portrait, extraordinary sensations come to mind. I was lucky enough to climb Grand Muveran and bivouac at summit for the night. A unique experience of a mountaineer in communion with nature. To take this photograph, I had to be patient. I had to listen to the elements in order to capture the precious moment when the mountain reveals its grandeur. It's winter. The storm is still raging on summits, the winds are carrying the snow away to other horizons. Tearing through the clouds, the Grand Muveran seems to want to pierce the sky. The sun reflects off the freshly frosted rocks, highlighting the mountain's sumptuous textures. The silvery tones of the image transcend the almost unreal beauty of summit. Revealing the purity and power of the high mountains: this is the deepest meaning of my art, what guides me at every moment and gives soul to my photographs.
