Gross Grünhorn
Between Light and Shadow
About the work
Its ridge joins the Klein Grünhorn. Our odyssey ends at summit on the Grosses and Hinteres Fiescherhorn, which rise to 4049 and 4025 metres respectively. I waited many years to take this photograph. The storm had to come during those few winter days when the sun only shines on the eastern faces of the mountains. What happiness I felt that day, when I realized that nature was about to offer me the spectacle I'd been dreaming of! The snow-laden winds whitened summits, transforming the rock faces into Himalayan mountains. Their immaculate slopes sparkled like diamonds at the gates of heaven. I love this play of light and shadow, which gives depth to the work and guides our gaze beyond the summits. Witnessing the scene, the Klein Fiescherhorn rises up on the horizon, a mysterious apparition that from the mist watches the dizzying ballet of the Grühorn and Fiescherhorn mountains.
