Grosses & Hinter Fiescherhorn
The Wall of Ice
About the work
I shot this black-and-white work under a spring dawn. The mountains breathe after battling the storm all night. The snow has covered summits and I capture the moment. Those few magical minutes when nature reveals its most beautiful face to me. A fleeting confession, an evanescent truth. A hand stretched towards her soul that I must grasp at all costs. Whatever the demands of the Queen Mountain, I must be there to bring it to light.
See how the snow sublimates the lines of its rock. Behold the splendor of the textures that clothe it. Its abstract curves, its bewitching contrasts. The Grosses-Fiescherhorn invites us on the grandest of journeys, through its seracs and hanging glaciers, carried by the elegance of its rock and snow. As I gaze at this portrait of the Grosses and Hinteres-Fiescherhorn, I remember my footsteps on their ridges. In 2024, I had the incredible good fortune to climb these two summits over 4000 meters above sea level. It wasn't an easy expedition, but when I reached their summit, I was undoubtedly the happiest of men.
