This black-and-white photograph takes you to the heart of bernese alps, not far from Grindelwald. Overlooking the Ischmer, the Hinter and Gross Fiescherhorn expose their north faces between light and shadow. Their verticality is striking. A kingdom of rock and ice has been born between the howling winds and the return of calm. To the left, in the shadows, the Kleines Fiescherhorn rises up, its summit triangle distinguishing it from its two storm-bleached brothers.

I created this monumental work from a unique angle. I dreamt of this portrait for ten years, until the conditions I was looking for finally came together. What a joy to have been able to immortalize this magical moment! From here, the mountain seems inaccessible, frightening and powerful. Snow has covered summits. Beauty reigns, austere and unparalleled. In those few minutes, nature revealed its true essence to me. In the theater of the heavens, the Hinter and Gross Fiescherhorn play a hymn to splendor. And I, as a humble photographer, must be there to pass on to you the heritage of the Alps.

Between seracs and hanging glaciers, between rocks and ridges, the two bernese alps brothers carry you in absolute elegance. Looking at this picture, I recall my ascent of the Hinter and Gross Fiescherhorn via a slope that is invisible on this picture. It was a tough climb, but once I'd reached summit, I felt like the happiest man alive.
