Emerging from the clouds, Mont Blanc appears more imposing than ever. The undisputed lord of the Alps, its Himalayan prestige dazzles our hearts as it strikes our souls. Through this magnificent black and white photograph, I wanted to offer you the flamboyant excess of a legendary mountain. To produce this square-format work, I flew up to an altitude of almost 5,000 meters by helicopter, as the winds died down, dispersing the clouds.

This portrait of Mont Blanc highlights the many access routes that punctuate its northern slope. We can only imagine the steeper, wilder routes that criss-cross its southern face, in the Italian Alps. Let's contemplate the Trois Monts route: from Mont Blanc de Tacul to Mont Maudit to Mont Blanc. Then the normal route with its train to the Nid d'Aigle. We then climb to the Tête Rousse and Goûter refuges. Crossing the Goûter ridge, we arrive at the Vallot hut, at 4362 meters altitude. It appears on the Bosses ridge like a speck of dust lost in the immensity of the world. Then we survey the Arête Royale, which crosses the Aiguille de Bionnassay, and the Arête du Brouillard, which passes the Pointe Baretti. So many places that make us dream and bring the work to life.

This breathtaking view of Mont Blanc marks the beginning of winter. The northern slopes of summits are now in the shade. The First snows clouds cover the mountains, transforming their rock into a jewel of light. The snow gradually fills in the gaps left by the summer sun, so that by spring Next, the mountain is once again passable. The hidden crevasses are like traps set by summits, and the climber must be vigilant not to fall into them.
