Taking our fascinated souls with it, Jungfrau rises vertiginously and breathtakingly above Grindelwald. On the borders of bernese alps and the Swiss Valais, she exults, heartrending and serene. To those who know how to listen, it proclaims the supreme force of nature and its extreme fragility. And as our footsteps retrace its history, treading its sharp crests, touching its prodigious curves. Discovering its flaming glaciers and icy rock as we cross. The mountain guides us all the way to its summit, finally offering us a revelation. A revelation of the sublime and the full. The absolute power of nature as queen, the celestial splendor of eternal snow.

I created this majestic portrait of Jungfrau at the dawn of spring. When the furious winds of winter have swept down its flanks without allowing its glaciers to regenerate. Our journey begins at summit on the Silberhorn and Goldenhorn, and reaches Wengen-Jungfrau via the Silbergrätli. Then, in a final, spirited burst, we reach the main summit of Jungfrau , which seems to be reaching for the sky. While the mildness of the summer weather takes hold of the valleys, the high mountains face up to the fury of the elements. As a mountain photographer, I watch for those fleeting moments when nature pays tribute to the splendor of the Alps.
