Lenspitze
Vertiginous geometry
About the work
The Lenspitze stands in the shadow of a recent storm. Lord of the Saas-Fee summits , it defies the sky to push it aside. Its north face draws our gaze to its bold tip. Clad in an armour of ice, it stands firm. Invincible pyramid, guardian of the Valais. The fresh snow has failed to adhere to the living ice, creating a striking contrast between the immaculate white and the dark, icy hues of the rock. This subtle play of light and shadow intensifies the perfect geometry of the mountain forms.
On the right, the sharp ridge leading up to the Nadelhorn recalls the technical difficulty of alpine ascents. This route, which was impassable during my ascent of the Lenspitze due to heavy snow, symbolizes the unpredictable, wild nature of these majestic summits . Below, the ridge visible on the left, usually the normal route to the Lenspitze, disappears under the thick layer of fresh snow, further underlining the force of the past storm.
This work inspires me as much as it moves me. The dynamics of its lines, the power of its contrasts and the softness of its grays. The ultimate emotion and the ultimate fright. Farther left, two other emblematic summits take shape: the Dôme, Switzerland's only "volcano" with its rounded shape and permanent clouds, and on the far left, the perfect pyramid of the Täschhorn, imposing and elegant. This Alpine tableau reveals a fascinating play of geometric repetition, where successive pyramidal shapes highlight the perfect, steep slope of the Lenspitze. This symphony of black and white tells the story of a mountain sculpted by eternity and unveiled by storm. Every ridge, every shadow bears witness to the silent dialogue between stone and the elements. It is in this age-old confrontation that the true poetry of the summits is born, the poetry that is imprinted on the photographer's soul as it is on that of the mountaineer, and which I offer you today for your contemplation.
