Lyskamm
silver beauty
About the work
This black-and-white photograph reveals the majestic 4,532-meter-high Lyskamm summit on the Swiss-Italian border between Valais and Valle d'Aosta. Nicknamed the "Man-Eater" for its fearsome reputation among mountaineers, the Lyskamm fascinates as much as it intimidates.
Here, the mountain plays with the clouds in an almost mystical dance. A subtle, silvery light illuminates its ice cap, revealing an unexpected delicacy amid the raw power of its hanging glaciers. Clouds curl around the summit, creating abstract, ephemeral shapes that intensify the impression of a celestial encounter. We can barely make out its steep lines, the rock outcropping in places, bearing witness to the incessant struggle between ice and stone.
This painting, with its silvery hues, transports us into a universe that is both wild and poetic, where the mountain transcends its harsh image to become almost dreamlike. I wanted to capture a rare moment when the fragile yet powerful beauty of the Lyskamm is revealed in all its splendor, a moment when the ephemeral becomes eternal, when man can only contemplate in silence.
