I'm fascinated by Lyskamm . A giant of rock and snow, it sits enthroned in the Zermatt valley, dominating the Alps at over 4,000 metres above sea level. Its immense, fabulous north face sweeps our gaze towards the celestial horizon. Thus clad in seracs, it seems impassable. But when the weather is right, seasoned climbers sometimes achieve the unthinkable. Climb this wall as if overcoming a wall, a citadel from another world. I too reached its summit, but by its edges. A race between earth and sky, where the slightest inattention can become fatal.

I took this black-and-white photograph of Lyskamm as a tribute to the mountain and the Grenzgletscher. One of the most beautiful glaciers in the Alps, it rises on the border between Switzerland and Italy, at the foot of the Monte Rosa massif. On the horizon, you can imagine its glittering, dense source, where the Corno Nero, Ludwigshöhe and Parrotspitze appear.

That day, I seized the chance to immortalize Lyskamm in its most beautiful light. As the storm receded, a sea of clouds swept over the Alps and into the Zermatt valley. But, resisting this grey assault, Lyskamm and Grenzgletscher rise into the sky. Shaping the divine features of a kingdom believed to be eternal. But the Alps are becoming increasingly fragile. As grandiose as ever and so dear to my heart, they are now suffering from the effects of global warming. New landscapes are emerging from this turbulence. The high mountains are changing, and my work bears witness to this evolution.
