Here we are facing the most beautiful mountain in the world: the Matterhorn. The treasure of the Valais Alps, it stands proudly in the Zermatt region. This aerial view was taken by helicopter just after the storm. In the background, the Monte Rosa massif emerges like a fortress above the clouds, lending depth to the photograph. Its summit, Dufourspitze, is the highest mountain in the Swiss Alps. It is accompanied by the Little Matterhorn, Breithorn, Castor and the Liskamm. At the foot of Monte Rosa lie the famous Gorner and Grenz glaciers. Gathered together under the general name of Gornergletscher, they once joined to form a single immense area of ice. Unfortunately, however, ever-higher temperatures have separated them once and for all, with the Gorner retreating further each year.

In this work, I've chosen to show the Matterhorn from a new angle. The sun's rays illuminate its north face, freshly plastered with snow. Opposite us, its western face, still in shadow, is just emerging from a sea of mist. On the right, the Lion ridge appears, the ascent route to the mountain from Italy. To the left, the Zmutt ridge marks the boundary between light and shadow.

Here, the Matterhorn pierces the clouds with its sharp point to reach the kingdom of heaven. Brandishing the cross that adorns his summit, he defies anyone to climb the last few metres of his peak. Through this imposing portrait, I wanted to transcribe the grandeur of this exceptional mountain at its most inaccessible and unchanging. The invincible, eternal character of this colossus of stone inspires me infinitely, fascinates me and makes me dream, transporting me far beyond our world, where the power of the elements is equalled only by their beauty.
