Matterhorn
King of the Alps
About the work
This painting takes us on an extraordinary journey to discover the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt. From Chamonix, it rises through the Mont Blanc and from the Col du Chardonnet, bypasses Grand Combin to reach Zermatt. The photograph highlights the points where this mythical route passes through to the Tête Blanche, the final stage of an epic journey to the edge of the sky. On foot or on skis, the adventure ends across the glaciers, from Stockjigletscher to Zmuttgletscher to Tiefmattengletscher. Without doubt the most beautiful descent in the Alps.
The work was born in the autumn winds, when First snows had just plastered the mountains. The harbingers of winter now sound like smoke and mirrors. Because rain or drought, increasingly frequent, will then come and disfigure our Alpine landscapes. As we await the dark times when the mountains will see their rock exposed all year round, let's immerse our gaze in this luminous work. An evanescent splendor that inspires our souls and enlightens our hearts. A celestial journey beyond the most beautiful summits in the Alps, those I've been lucky enough to climb and those I still dream of climbing.
