Mont Blanc and Dents du Midi
Beyond the Mist
About the work
I painted this picture at sunrise, after the passage of a snowstorm. As fog blankets the valleys, the high mountains breathe again, bathed in sunlight and offered to the infinity of the sky. The beauty of a universe beyond our own, sublime and unchanging. The photography perfectly captures the extraordinary scale of the Mont Blanc massif. A mastodon of rock and ice dominating the Alps.
This photograph recalls a unique moment. The moment when only the tips of Dents du Midi emerge from the fog. I only witnessed this spectacle that day. The effect is impressive, and it's disorientating. The mountain range seems so close to Mont Blanc, even though they are actually 35 km apart. Unrecognizable, the Dents du Midi peaks emerge like sparkling islands from a sea of clouds. This panorama of the Alps shocks us as much as it awakens us to the splendor of a nature that unfolds beyond the fog. The mystery of a high mountain that lives beyond our gaze, tirelessly nourishing our imagination.
