Mount Rose
Alpine travel
About the work
While my work usually highlights nature untouched by humanity, in this photograph I wanted to praise the immensity of the Alps through the presence of the men who walk these summits. In the foreground, climbers reach the highest point of the Parrotspitze. Can you make out the leader jumping the summit crevasse of this rock giant? In the background, a group of climbers reach the Margherita hut, enthroned between earth and sky on the summit of the Signalkuppe. While other climbers tackle the last few metres to summit.
To bring this picture to life, I waited for heavy thunderstorms to blanket the mountains with snow in late summer. Just enough to provide ideal conditions for traversing the freshly-whitened ridges. To give climbers the irrepressible urge to tackle the Spaghetti Tour and its most beautiful summits.
I love the pure, powerful aesthetics of this photograph. The graphism of the ridges, the cutting of the planes. A few lines drawn by nature to express the very essence of life. The rigorous yet free composition guides us towards the sky, just as the mountain is both demanding and generous. An artistic jewel that invites us to encounter Mount Rose.
