I present this magnificent photograph of Mont Vélan, a summit rising to 3722 meters. Situated at the bottom of the Val d'Entremont, on the border between Switzerland and Italy, Mont Vélan offers spectacular panoramic views of the Alps from its summit . Its summit, so large in area that it's nicknamed "the soccer field", rarely catches the eye, often overshadowed by the imposing presence of the Grand Combin. In this black-and-white portrait, I pay homage to the silent grandeur of Mont Vélan.

We're in the middle of a storm here, and the conditions are absolutely exceptional for immortalizing this marvellous moment. For many years, I have patiently watched for this rare moment when the mountain wages a titanic battle against the elements. In this photograph, rock and cloud intermingle with dramatic intensity. The violence of the wind is fully expressed in the tormented shapes of the clouds, which form abstract, almost unreal figures. What do you see? A face? A monster? The mountain seems redrawn by the clouds.

Faced with this scene, emotion runs deep. The work reveals all the ambivalence of the high mountains. Attracted irresistibly by the absolute purity of these summits, we are constantly reminded of the reality of omnipresent danger. Because under these conditions, mountains remain inaccessible to man.
