Rubli and Gummfluh
Gstaad Sentinels
About the work
In the heart of winter, this black-and-white photograph plunges us into the striking world of Gstaad's Alpine giants. On the right, the Rubli rises like an imposing, overhanging pyramid, with a particularly inspiring and distinctive shape. Its precisely sculpted ridge reveals itself through an intense interplay of light and shadow. The delicate striations on its crest reinforce this powerful graphic feel and underline its bold, assertive character. To the left, the Gummfluh rises along with the Pointes de Sur Combe. These summits, which look like giant molars forcefully emerging from the depths of the earth, are imposing in their impressive verticality and inaccessible nature. Plunged here in a deep winter shadow, they express all the rigor and harshness of the season. The Videmanette plains lie between these two rugged rock formations, in subtle contrast to their gentle horizontality. In the aftermath of a storm that deposited fresh, generous snow, the morning mist is slowly dissipating to reveal this enchanting alpine landscape. The exceptional conditions particularly enhance the contrasts of light, with their purity of form and richness of texture.
This work inspires me as much as it moves me. The dynamics of its lines and the power of its contrasts. The ultimate emotion and fascination. For Rubli and Gummfluh are in the grip of the sky's frenzy. Nature reveals itself, the magic of winter settles on their flanks. Calm squalls that never return the same. In the face of such splendor, the snow that covers these giants seems to freeze time, revealing a world that is less and less visible in such conditions. Like a breath suspended between two eras, the soul of these mountains seems to whisper to us that beauty, however fleeting, deserves to be celebrated in its purest expression.
