Monte Disgrazia
Between Heaven and Earth
About the work
I shot this black-and-white panorama in spring, when the mountain had just faced roaring winds. The photograph perfectly illustrates the essence of my artistic approach. Immortalize the ephemeral. To convey the beauty of those rare and precious moments when the mountain reveals itself. When, all of a sudden, the sky clears after the storm, revealing the freshly snow-covered summits . The first rays of sunlight illuminate their walls. Silver hues highlight each face of the sprawling Monte Disgrazia, whether in shadow or light. Depth is created by a succession of different planes. Our gaze wanders from the sea of clouds to the imposing Monte Disgrazia. Finally, it settles on the mountains of Lombardy, sculpting the horizon.
I don't know much about Lombardy. There are still so many regions, so many mountains to explore. I know the time will come to photograph them. But for now, I feel charged with a mission. A vital and imperative one. To immortalize the highest mountains and their hanging glaciers. Because in 30 years' time, they'll be gone. Ice giants inexorably weakened by global warming. So I dedicate my art to them. These rulers of a kingdom thought to be eternal, whose memory I must perpetuate.
