Nordend - Dufourspitze
About the work
In the middle of autumn, the exceptional luminosity suddenly catches us. The rays pierce the clouds and caress the gigantic crevasses. How could nature create such ice sculptures? Impressive and terrifying, ferocious and magnificent, the mountains retain their unfathomable mystery. Before the onset of winter, it would be far too dangerous to set foot on the flanks of these giants. We can only contemplate their ephemeral beauty from afar. And that's what I like best: admiring a celestial scene, waiting for a mystical light to sublimate the landscape, observing the dance of the clouds. And I wait for a miracle to happen. For a unique hue to reveal itself and give depth to my work, so that I can bear witness to the flamboyance of the high mountains.
I love the grain of this photography, reminiscent of the argentic style. Between abstraction and figuration, the work takes us on an emotional journey. Observe the contrasts. The light, though present on the summits, is only temporary in the face of the storm's imminent arrival. Isn't this a metaphor for our own life path? Whenever we glimpse a light in our future, we are never safe from new turbulence.
As I write these words in 2024, I can see how nature is changing. Today, glaciers are opening up, thirsty. I was lucky enough to reach the Nordend summit this year. The route has now changed considerably as the ice has melted. When I contemplate this work of art, the memories of this magnificent adventure come flooding back. I look forward to sharing with you the beauty of this world of light and darkness.
