Obergabelhorn - Matterhorn - Blanc de Moming - Besso
About the work
I took this black-and-white work in spring. Tired from the biting cold of winter, the summits were impatient for the return of mild weather. Their frozen rock awaited the first rays of sunlight. At daybreak, a low-angled light illuminated the mountains. I rushed to photograph this moment of beauty. Faced with these three summits, adrenalin took hold of me. The Besso, theObergabelhorn and the Matterhorn revealed their true presence. The mountains offered me a moment of enchantment that no man can experience without going to the heights.
Observe how theObergabelhorn contrasts with its two neighbors. Its north face remains in shadow, while the Besso and the Matterhorn are bathed in light. Then contemplate the Moming glacier in the foreground. It tells its age-old story. Torn by crevasses, it imposes its ferocity. Finally, the king of the scene, behind theArbengrat on theObergabelhorn. I call the Matterhorn, royal pyramid, my muse and daily inspiration. I love the powerful contrasts in this work. The mountains and glaciers play with light and shadow. I love the balance of the summits, the precision of their lines and the finesse of their forms. Their splendor soars beyond the Alps to touch our hearts.
