Ober Gabelhorn
Vertical Emergence
About the work
And on its generous crest, the mountain reflects the gigantic shadow of the Wellenkuppe and its Grand Gendarme, giving substance to the traverse from Arbengrat to the Wellenkuppe, the heartbeat of every mountaineer. The crests of Obergabelhorn bear witness to the passage of men last summer. In this cold season, the mountain has not been able to regenerate itself. The winter was harsh and the winds impetuous. The spring snows now represent our last hope of seeing the mountain once again untouched by human hands.
This grandiose photograph of the Obergabelhorn highlights the royal splendor of its north face. With each season, I watch it evolve, inexorably suffering the warming of the times. Yet, I continue to devote my art to it. Bearing witness to its most stunning moments. Watching for the ephemeral instants when the mountain sparkles, purer than ever. Reborn from the fervors of a fierce storm, then plastered with snow like a dazzling muse. And from this black and white work created in 2024, emanates the fervor of our first moments. The emotion felt at the very first glance, when in 2013 I beheld the Obergabelhorn for the first time.
I love the details that emerge from the painting. The infinite beauty, the fragrance of eternity. I love the deep, dreamy atmosphere that photography exudes. Unwavering witness to a celestial world where only the mountains spread their white wings. The play of vigorous lines that, from shadow to light, draw the implacable softness of the high mountains in silvery strokes. The serene power ofObergabelhorn.
