Obergabelhorn - Matterhorn
Echo des Géants
About the work
I've been waiting for this moment for 10 years now. On the lookout for the snowy winds as soon as spring dawns. I wait and watch for the slightest sign. A hopeful whisper, like a distant echo of splendors to come. But this day, I sense, will be like no other. At summit in the Alps, dawn breaks and the sky reveals itself. A sea of mist fills the valleys, drawing our gaze towards the infinite. Obergabelhorn and the Matterhorn emerge alone from the clouds, breaking the offensive of the impetuous winds. The mountains finally reveal themselves, sparkling and invincible. The time has come to immortalize this unique and masterful scene. A masterpiece of the Alps, an exceptional photograph.
At the end of winter,Obergabelhorn appears like a fragile jewel. Its north face is covered in a thin blanket of snow, through which the outlines of its icy rock can be seen. Its glacier opens up more and more each year, soon removing any possibility of climbing the mountain via its north face. The sumptuous details of its deep crevasses and intractable faults are testimony to its decay.
And despite the drama that plays out here, the work is sublime and the image striking. From shadow to light,Obergabelhorn and the Matterhorn mingle. They answer each other, radiant and complicit. Both victorious in a battle against the winds, they embody the power of the Alps and our hopes for the future. And through a play of perspectives, the photograph soars to the glory ofObergabelhorn, which here appears to be on a par with the Matterhorn. Yet they are only 7 km and 415 m apart. For in this beautiful and precious world, everything is a matter of intimate conviction and fierce will.
