At the end of winter,Obergabelhorn appears like a fragile jewel. Its north face is covered in a thin blanket of snow, through which the outlines of its icy rock can be seen. Its glacier opens up more and more each year, soon removing any possibility of climbing the mountain via its north face. The sumptuous details of its deep crevasses and intractable faults are testimony to its decay.
