bernese alps
Shadow and Light Show
About the work
I took this black-and-white aerial photograph from the heights of Glacier 3000, one of the most famous skiable glaciers in the Swiss Alps. In the depths of winter, a storm had just covered the mountains with a thick layer of snow. Shortly after our helicopter took off, we found ourselves stranded above a thick fog bank. It was impossible to land the helicopter. We had to wait for a break in the clouds before we could descend. It was during this in-between moment that I saw the breathtaking view before us. I immediately asked the pilot to take us up as high as possible.
At an altitude of 4,000 metres, this was the breathtaking spectacle we were lucky enough to witness. Untouched, untamed nature revealing its splendor and immensity. I love the contrasts that animate the high mountains during the winter months. They reveal the beauty of its soul and its strength of character. Its sun-drenched slopes bathed in softness, its faces plunged into shadow, facing the icy cold. Yin and Yang of a kingdom dominating the sky, black and white clash and complement each other. To bring depth to the work and glorify the presence of the high summits.
