Majestic panorama
Dawn on the Bernina peaks
About the work
The sparkling pyramid of Piz Tschierva catches our eye in the foreground of the picture. Enchanted by the beauty of the landscape, our gaze then wanders to Piz Boval, whose rounded forms contrast with the sharp point of Piz Tschierva. Then it flies along Biancograt, a magnificent ridge that rises between light and shadow to summit du Piz Bernina, at 4048 metres above sea level. On the right, the ridge continues in shadow towards Piz Scerscen, while on the left, it continues towards Piz Argient and Piz Zupo, which culminates at 3995 meters. This splendid summit was just 5 metres short of the prestigious 4000-metre mounts. 5 metres to attract the attention of mountaineers in search of ascents. Just a few metres to go from shadow to light. But instead, Piz Zupo can only watch helplessly as climbers ascend Biancograt before passing at its feet to reach the Bellavista ridge.
In creating this portrait of Biancograt, I wanted to highlight the wild and grandiose beauty of the Bernina massif. To admire the sequence of ridges that gives the work an incredible dimension. The perfect alignment of summits guides us towards Piz Bernina and its celestial summit. At sunrise, nature offers us one of her most beautiful masterpieces. I love the graphic purity of its features. The textures that emerge from the wind's assault on the bleached rock. Thanks to the silvery reflections of the snow, the shady mountainsides reveal a wealth of detail. Redrawing the Alps in charcoal, nature plays with this fleeting moment to reveal its most Soft mysteries. As you contemplate the work each day, you'll discover them. Let your gaze wander from peak to peak, never tiring of it.
